Invigorating Meadows in Mukta Top Trek
The meadows and forest clearings have always been perfect for camping, it is bliss to camp amidst the forest or in the middle of a meadow and “Mukta Top” is included in one of the places which has got the best clearings like Kedarkantha.
Snow covers the meadows in the winter season, which makes the sight eye pleasing and bracing. This is one of the reasons that it makes a great winter trek and can be done by beginners because of the low altitude.

Himalayan Hikers organizes transport for trekkers from Dehradun Railway Station in the morning which will leave for Uttarkashi/ Gangori around 6:00 am to 7:00 am.
Get in the vehicle from Dehradun and enjoy the picturesque journey along Bhagirathi River’s bank and forest stretches to reach Uttarkashi / Gangori it is base camp of mukta top trek
Gangori is in Uttarkashi which is 150 km away from Dehradun and you will reach there in 6 to 7 hours. We start from Dehradun early in the morning so that we can reach the base camp on time.
The drive to Gangori is delightful and along the bank of River Ganga, we go through the forest which covers a large area. Reach your base camp which is beside ASI Ganga River.
Day 2 : Drive from Gangori to Kuflon by taxi (07 km) (20 minutes) (4,600 feet); same day Trek Kuflon to Shiladuni
Trek Distance – 11 km – 4/5 Hours journey
Mode of journey – On foot – 04 km – By taxi – 07 km
Altitude – Shiladuni camp – 6,790 feet
Night Stay – Our Camp- on twin share basis
Reach Kuflon in 30 to 40 minutes and trek starts from there, the trail is well marked through a market, further steep climb starts, the trail snakes through a pine forest.
Ascend for 2.5 km more now the dense forest begins with a variety of trees which are -Oaks, Maples and Rhododendrons. The forest has started and now you can spot different species of birds here.
Further is a stream and after crossing the stream trek for 20 more minutes and you will surprisingly enter a forest clearing which is not very wide, on one side there is shepherd’s hut and on the other side some snow covered mountains are visible.
Shiladuni is a forest clearing and a beautiful campsite, there are multiple streams near it. Enjoy food there and relaxing stay in tents.
Day 3 :Trek from Shiladuni camp to Chaithathar camp
Trek Distance – 05 km – 5/6 Hours journey
Mode of journey – On foot
Altitude – Chaithathar camp – 9,600 feet
Night Stay – Camp – on twin share basis
Today after breakfast trek from some steps ahead forest starts, there is foliage in abundance. Start trekking towards Chaithathar, today’s trek is a little difficult and the climbs are steep.
Trek through the forest of Oaks and maples for an hour, they are present in a large quantity. Then cross a stream with the help of stones or wooden logs placed there. Reach mid-point of your trek that is Kuari from here the campsite is 3 km away.
From here the trek gets a little tough, ascend through a rocky path for one hour and you will reach a place from where the fetching valley view and the campsite for Day1 and Day 2 is visible. Now, go through bamboo forests which are not usually found in other treks of Uttarakhand.
Reach your campsite Chaithathar, it is amidst the forest a small beautiful clearing, there is a flowing stream and a shepherd’s hut. The birds from here can be spotted and you can enjoy birding here. Have dinner and enjoy night in your camps
Day 4 : Trek from Chaithathar to Mukta Tal
Trek Distance – 04 km – 4/5 Hours journey
Mode of journey – On foot
Altitude – Mukta Tal – 10,800 feet
Night Stay – Our Camp site – on twin share basis
The trail to Mukta Tal is through forest and it’s a gradual ascent. The trail is well defined which will lead you to a small clearing which is covered by snow in winter season, you can reach there in two hours.
From there you can have phenomenal views of Bandarpoonch, Nag Tibba and Kala Nag. Now, trek for few minutes on an ascending trail from where a hill is visible which has oaks and birch.
Trek through bracing meadows and you can reach your campsite in an hour. Mukta Tal is a small pond and close sight of Bandarpoonch can be seen from here.

Day 5 : Trek from Mukta Tal to Mukta Top (11,378 feet) down to Kuari camp

Today is the climb to Mukta Top (3608 Meter) passing the meadows above the Tal and this trail takes you to the top.
This trail is an ascending one and offers extraordinary views of Bandarpunch peak and Kala Nag whole ranges are visible, the view of them makes the sight idyllic. You can reach summit in 6/7 hours there is a Tal which is named “Siyari Tal” and the summit views are phenomenal.
The peaks visible form there are Gangori group of peaks, Nag Tibba, Kala Nag, Bandarpunch peak and Jaonli, spend time there having glance of every peak and retrace your steps to Kuari which was the mid-point of your trek on Day 3. This is your campsite and the water source is the stream, there are multiple streams around this place.
Day 6 : Trek from Kuari to Kuflon (06 km) (4/5 hours) Same day Drive to Dehradun
Trek Distance –161 km – 7/8 Hours journey
Mode of journey – On foot – 06 km or by taxi -155 km
Follow the same route to go Kuflon, the trail is through the forest, while descending spot Himalayan birds and wildlife photographers can click some of the best shots here, Shiladuni is a great place where the maximum number of birds are found.
When you are about to reach Kuflon you can see the ASI Ganga
River powerhouse on the way.
After reaching Kuflon, drive back to Dehradun and you can reach there around
6:00 to 6:30 pm.
