Beginners Trekking Guide: My experience of trekking has always been awesome. The aesthete which resides within provokes me to explore the abundant beauty and roam all around in my home because Home is Where the Heart Is.
I feel my heart is lost in the mountains and whenever I bid a goodbye to them they recall me with a delicate smile, so it becomes hard to wait for my next adventure. While venturing out to places there are enormous things which you should keep in mind.
I committed several mistakes when I went for my first trek, but here are some tips to keep in mind for beginners who want to be at peace away from the noise of cities.

Beginners Trekking Guide: Plan the Destination Prudently and Get Physically Fit
Nowadays most of the information is available on the web so check about the places you want to explore and get an idea about your destination.
Research the places and trails. Do not go for very high altitude treks in the beginning and choose popular trails if they suit your fitness and are suitable for other members of the group.
Every trek needs physical fitness and requires practice of carrying a backpack on steep ascents and descents.
Start jogging on rough terrain around your home with a load on your back to gain stamina and speed. For different altitude treks your body needs to be trained differently.

Always wear clothes warm enough. Do not wear or carry fewer layers because the weather in the mountains is unpredictable and can change anytime. It is better to be too warm than too cold.

People sometimes carry fewer layers and start shivering badly because the cold becomes bone freezing. Always carry an extra pair of layers and socks along with a poncho in case of rainfall, but do not make your backpack heavy with unnecessary items.
Do’s and Don’ts in Beginners Trekking Guide
Do not wear or carry cotton clothes because they do not keep you warm and do not dry easily.
Along with a jacket you should carry warm woolen layers or fleece. Carry more layers during winter and fewer during summer.
The temperature decreases at night so you may need thermals.
On a trek wear woolen or synthetic socks as they help prevent blisters when your feet are sweaty or wet.
Sun protection is important so always wear a cap or hat.
The shoes should be strong enough with good support. Sports shoes may not be suitable so it is better to use proper trekking shoes.
Jeans are never suitable for trekking. You should carry 2–3 trekking pants for treks like Kedarkantha, Dayara Bugyal, and Rupin Supin. Carry more for longer treks.
Backpack for Beginners
The backpack you carry depends on the duration of the trek, the location and the season. Do not carry excessive clothes or unnecessary items that make your bag heavy.
Helpful Tips for Beginners
- Carry enough water because dehydration is common in mountains.
- If you find running water during the trek refill your water bottles.
- Carry high energy food like fruits, dry fruits, energy bars and biscuits.
- Carry sunscreen (50 SPF) to protect your skin from UV rays.
- The whole group should keep one medical kit.
- Carry a torch, matchstick, sunglasses and toiletry items.

Be Safe During Treks
It may look fun to go only with friends but there are dangers and the routes can be confusing. It is better to hire a local guide or plan your trek with a reputed trekking company that provides proper safety and comfort.
Enjoy trekking with your family or friends because exploring together is always better. Inform family members about the place you are visiting because there is usually no mobile signal during treks.
Carry cash because ATM facilities are rare in mountain villages and also carry government ID proof.
Be aware of danger and do not touch unknown plants because some flora can be poisonous.
Wear full sleeved and neck covering clothes to protect yourself from insect bites.
Do not smoke or consume alcohol during a trek.
