5 Best Treks in Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh is known for adventure treks for every trekker. But when you have more than 40 of the best trekking destinations on your screen, then picking the perfect trek based on your expectations and trekking skill level becomes quite an overwhelming task.
That’s why I have shortlisted my top 5 favorite treks in Himachal that you can select from. Whether you want the dramatic landscapes of Hampta Pass or the mystical embrace of Bhrigu Lake these are the treks that stay with you forever.
Now, let me tell you why your next trek should be one of these unforgettable adventures:
1. Hampta Pass Trek - The Valley Of Contrast
If you ask me to name the topmost trek in Himachal, then Hampta Pass is the first name on my personal favorite list. This trek has something that will make you fall in love with it. What makes this trek special is the beautiful transition of the lush green zone to the barren desert of Spiti valley.
This is a circuit trek that starts from Manali and reaches Chapru at 11,100 ft, which is the highest point of the Hampta Pass trek. From here, you can get a taxi and return to Manali via the Atal Tunnel.
Best time to visit Hampta Pass trek: Summer and Monsoon are the peak seasons to experience the beautiful contrast of Manali's lush greenery and Lahaul Spiti’s rocky landscape. If you want a less crowded time, August and September are great months to explore this trek.
Difficulty Level: Hampta Pass belongs to the Moderate level of difficulty. Warmer weather and clear skies during summer and post-monsoon improve trekking conditions for beginners.
2. Sar Pass Trek - A Snowy Wonderland
Sar Pass is the second trek on my favorite list. It is one of the best spring treks in Himachal Pradesh. When you stand at a height of 13,800 ft, everything beneath your feet looks like endless white snow. On clear days, the panoramic views of the Himalayas look absolutely magical.
What Is The Best Time For Sar Pass Trek?
The best time for doing the Sar Pass Trek is from May to October. My personal favorite time is summer (May–June) because the weather is more stable and the temperature is comfortable compared to the colder months from November to April.
Why Sar Pass Trek Is Special?
The key highlights of the Sar Pass Trek show a perfect blend of adventure, nature, and culture. Its challenging terrain with steep ascents and narrow ridges adds thrill, while scenic campsites provide a true Himalayan wilderness experience.
Overall, if you have some trekking experience and want a slightly challenging trek, this is a great option.
3. Buran Ghati - The Ultimate Adventure Trek
The next trek on my list is Buran Ghati. I completed this trek last September and the Barua village reminded me of The Shire from Lord of the Rings.
I started this trek from Janglik village, which is around 160 km from Shimla. The landscapes of lush grasslands and alpine beauty made it one of my favorite treks.
Key Highlights Of This Trek
This 7-day trek passes through stunning meadows where trekkers can witness nature in its full glory. The final day at Barua village makes the journey truly special.
Who Can Do Buran Ghati Trek?
The Buran Ghati Trek falls into the Moderate to Difficult category. It requires good endurance and some technical ability, especially for the ice wall descent.
If you already have experience with moderate treks and want to push your limits, this trek is perfect.
4. Bhrigu Lake Trek - A Short Journey For Spiritual Awakening
This trek is named after Adi Rishi Bhrigu and is a great option for beginner trekkers who want a short but exciting Himalayan trek.
This 3-day trek starts from Rola Kholi Base Camp, about 25 km from Manali. When you reach Bhrigu Lake at 14,100 ft, you are rewarded with a stunning alpine lake and panoramic views of Hanuman Tibba, Deo Tibba, and the Pir Panjal ranges.
How Difficult Is The Bhrigu Lake Trek?
This trek falls into the moderate difficulty category. The steady ascent provides the thrill of hiking at a high altitude.

The best time is during Summer and Monsoon (June to September). Personally, I prefer August and September for the best views.
Overall, it is a great trek for beginners who want a short but rewarding high-altitude experience.
5. Pin Bhaba Trek - The Most Thrilling Crossover Trek
Last but not least, Pin Bhaba completes my list of the best 5 treks in Himachal. This trek surprises you from the very first day with its changing landscapes.
The forests of coniferous trees, turquoise rivers, and the Phutsirang River delta look straight out of a storybook. This 8-day trek takes you from the lush green valleys of Kinnaur to the barren landscape of Spiti Valley.
Who Can Do It: The Pin Bhaba Trek is Moderate to Difficult and not recommended for beginners. Experienced trekkers who have already completed moderate treks will enjoy this challenge.
