Mr. Chain Singh Rawat: Co-Founder of Himalayan Hikers

Born in a humble family in Village Sour, Post Office Sankri, District Uttarkashi, Mr. Chain Singh Rawat has become a major influence in Uttarakhand’s tourism and mountaineering scene. He overcame difficult circumstances to become a skilled mountaineer and inspire many others.

Following the footsteps of the first skilled mountaineer from Mori region, Mr. Bhagat Singh Rawat (basic course in 1995), Mr. Chain Singh Rawat has transformed Village Sour Sankri into a popular tourist destination, generating employment and opportunities for locals.

Today, more than 200 tourists visit Sankri daily, supporting local employment.

Employment Initiatives by Mr. Chain Singh Rawat

  • Over 250 youths from 15+ villages are employed through tourism activities.
  • More than 74 vehicles operate for trekkers’ pickup and drop in Sankri.
  • Horses are employed for carrying tourism goods, providing additional income.
  • Local families benefit from hotel and homestay businesses.
  • Tourism growth during winters creates a festive atmosphere in the village.
  • He opened Har Ki Dun Public School in 2011, providing free education to poor and orphaned children.

Due to his dedication to society and simple nature, Mr. Chain Singh Rawat is widely respected in Uttarakhand and abroad.
