Chopta is a small hamlet lying in Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarakhand at an elevation of 2679 meters, also known as Mini Switzerland. The trail further leads to Tungnath, the third temple of Panch Kedar and the world’s highest temple of Lord Shiva, and continues to Chandrashila also known as Moon Rock.

Uttarakhand is a desired destination for trekkers because it offers heavenly places that satisfy the adrenaline rush. Chopta offers magnificent views of the Himalayan range and the spectacular sight of Chaukhamba peaks, Nanda Devi and Mt. Trishul. This place is barely inhabited and has a peaceful charm because of its tranquil environment and distance from crowded hill stations.

Chopta is part of Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary and is extremely rich in flora and fauna. More than 550 species of birds are found here. While trekking you can spot beautiful Himalayan birds that are rare in other regions.

The best time for birdwatching in Chopta is from March to September.
