Milam Glacier lies in Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary at the base of Mandakini peak and connects the two fable holy pilgrimage sites; Badrinath to Kedarnath. On this trek cross 4 high passes of Indian Himalayas and en route get thrilling views of Chaukhamba peaks with other high Himalayan ranges. Witness lush green meadows and uncountable colourful flowers blooming together.

Mandani Valley A Pilgrimage Site

It is believed that here Goddess Durga killed Mahishasura and buried him at this place. After burying him she transformed into a rock and decided to sit there on him forever, the rock is still present there. One more story is that Pandavas passed through this region during their ascent to Swargarohini. From Mandani Bugyal an ancient temple is visible near Usha River.

The Largest Glacier In Kumaon Region

Milam Glacier, the source of Gori Ganga River is the largest in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand and it lies 15 km north east of Nanda Devi. This glacier has now become a well-known trekking destination because of the adventure and scenic vistas it offers with extraordinary close views of Nanda Devi and other lofty Himalayan peaks.

A Great Trekking Destination in Uttarakhand

The starting point of this trek is Munsyari which lies in Pithoragarh district. Trek along the Gori Ganga River and cross the dense forested sections. The trees found in the forests are Rhododendrons, Bamboo, Chestnut and Conifers. This trail leads to Gori Ganga valley.

Pass through the colourful valleys and wide blooming meadows, on the way come across cascading waterfalls and feast your eyes with the splendid views of mighty Himalayan peaks.

We serve three meals a day including snacks and soup. A variety of delectable and healthy food is provided which includes; Indian, Chinese and other Western meals. They are nutritious and keeps you fit and healthy on your trek.

  1. Day 1 Kathgodam to Munsiyari (2290 m) (277 km)

    Arrive Kathgodam and pass through Kumaon hills to reach your destination, Munsiyari. Chaukhori is a famous spot for tea gardens and enthralling view of Himalayas.
    Spend rest of the day in guesthouse. Dinner and overnight stay in the pre booked accommodation.

  2. Day 2 Munsiyari to Lilam (1850 m) (7 km)

    Lilam your campsite for today is a mini village with few houses. Post breakfast start trekking towards it, the trek today is an easy one.

    Get some wonderful views from here, setup your camps and after having delicious food rest for the night.

  3. Day 3 Lilam to Bugdyar (2609 m) (12 km)

    Post breakfast start your trek towards Bugdyar. Go through forests with bent trees. Small rivers of Gori Ganga and Ralam meet in this forest section.

    Continue your trek and ahead see River Poting and Gori Ganga meet. Bugdyar village is marked from here.

    Reach there, set your tents and retire for the night.

  4. Day 4 Bugdyar to Martoli (3385 m) (14 km)

    Today go ahead the tree line and come across alpine pasturelands. Start the day young today because the distance to be covered is 14 km.

    Martoli campsite is a barren land which is of great importance on Tibetan trading route. Setup your camps and retire for the night.

  5. Day 5 Martoli to Ganghar (3260 m) (12 km)

    The trail offers irregular views of the Himalayan peaks. The 12 km distance can be covered in 6 hours. Reach Ganghar and relish the sight of Nanda Devi East.
    Setup your camps and retire for the night.

  6. Day 6 Ganghar to Pachu (3690 m) (6 km)

    Today proceed to Pachu Glacier through the trail with blooming Rhododendrons.
    The very close view of Nanda Devi east from this point is the highlight of this trip. Setup your camps here and retire for the night.

  7. Day 7 Rest Day at Pachu

    Today rest at Pachu, explore Nanda Devi east ridges or just rest at the campsite and retire for the night.

  8. Day 8 Burfu to Milam village (3400 m) (8 km)

    The scenic vistas are not going to leave your side today. Nanda Devi peaks are continuously visible on the trek.

    Reach your campsite Milam, it is the last village on trail and one of the remotest village in Uttarakhand. Reach there in 4 hours and after setting up tents, retire for the night.

  9. Day 9 Millam village to Milam Glacier (4200 m) and return

    Wake up early and witness spellbinding Mt. Trisuli with other snow clad Himalayan peaks changing their colours at the time of sunrise. Today proceed towards the glacier’s head. The terrain is rugged and it is a 3 km steep ascent.

    This glacier covers 10 km. Reach the largest glacier of Kumaon and after spending some time descent to Milam campsite.

  10. Day 10 Milam to Rilkot (3250 m) (17 km)

    From Milam to Rilkot is a long downhill trek. Reach Rilkot in 8 hours, set your camps beside the river and after having salubrious food retire for the night.

  11. Day 11 Rilkot to Bugdyar (12 km)

    Add Itinerary Descent to Bugdyar, on the way come across a gorge at Nahar Devi. Reach Bugdyar, setup your camps here and retire for the night.

  12. Day 12 Bugdyar to Lilam (12 km)

    Retrace your steps and descent to reach Lilam village.

  13. Day 13 Lilam to Munsiyari (7 km)

    Post breakfast, trek towards the road head and get back to Munsiyari. The arrangements will be made in a rest house there.

  14. Day 14 Munsiyari to Kathgodam (277 km)

    Have breakfast and drive back towards Chaukori and from there depart to Kathgodam.

Cancellation Policy?

- Make your booking one or two months prior in advance. If you cancel the trek due to any reason, it is mandatory to notify us. Cancellation charges will only be effective from the date we get your request to cancel the trek.

- If the trek gets cancelled from our side due to natural disaster,rainfall, heavy snowfall or any other reason then the refund will not be initiated but we will arrange another trek.

The cancellation charges are as follows –

  • Up to 30 Days – 90% cost is Refundable
  • Between 21 to 30 Days – 50% cost is Refundable
  • Less than 20 Days – No Refund
